Tiger Saw’s fifth full-length album Nightingales is a return of sorts to their slowcore roots. A string quartet augments the band on most of the tracks. Siblings Emily and Glenn Forsythe (from the Boston-based band St. Claire) provide lush vocal harmonies. Friends Helena Sundin (from the Swedish band Cake on Cake) and Wesley Hartley (from Dead End Armory / Traveling Trees) each take a lead vocal turn on songs written especially for them to sing. There’s a cover of the Unbunny classic ‘Pink Lemonade’.
These are songs about the night, both literally and metaphorically. Songs about friends growing apart, bittersweet nostalgia, about embracing darkness and rejecting it. It’s Tiger Saw’s most mature work to date, and it’s sound is beautiful, warm, and deliberate.

- Back in 2006, Tiger Saw did a Daytrotter session, which has been available since then as a free download at a 128 bit-rate. Now, Daytrotter is offering a high-quality lossless download of the five-songs acoustic session for a cost of $5.00 (The original 128 bit-rate MP3′s are still free to download).
- Additionally, our 2007 album, Tigers on Fire, which will see an April re-release on Burst & Bloom Recordings, is available to download via Daytrotter. This album features a four-person horn section, as well as a wide range of special guest vocalists and players, including members of Deer Tick, Dirty Projectors, and White Hinterland.

Tiger Saw performed a set on the Phoning It In podcast this weekend. We performed a few songs, and in the spirit of theAll My Friends book, South China, The Wailing Wall, and Moons of Jupiter (All members of the current Saw lineup), each performed a Tiger Saw song as well.
The host, Nadav, who has put on a few memerable shows over the years, wrote of the session:
Dylan Metrano, Chris Holt (Moons of Jupiter), Mandy Sabine, Jesse Rifkin (The Wailing Wall), Jerusha Robinson (South China), and Jeremy Robinson (South China) phone it in from Portland, ME. As much a collective as a solo vehicle for Dylan, Tiger Saw’s seen over 100 members throughout its decade of existence (not to mention that Dylan and all those members each play in plenty of different bands). And to celebrate that decade, Dylan’s put together an oral history of the band, ‘All My Friends Are Right Here With Me,’ which comes complete with a CD of covers by friends and band members both past and present. In lesser hands, the thing would be an egotistical mess, except that Dylan is just so damned nice, one of the least ego-driven people you could hope to meet, and the results of any Tiger Saw project are never less than magical. From sleepy slowcore to exuberant singalong folk, downbeat or up-, Dylan’s songs are never less than hopeful and affirming, gentle reminders that there is hope, there is kindness, there is love.

Dylan Metrano’s book All My Friends Are Right Here With Me: A Decade in the Indie Rock Underground has been published.
Over a year in the making, All My Friends Are Right Here With Me is the story of the first decade of the indie-folk collective Tiger Saw. Based on a decade of tour diaries and dozens of interviews, it tells of a community of bands in this DIY, post-Nirvana era. It features first-person accounts of tours with Kimya Dawson, Castanets, Jason Anderson, Viking Moses, The Hotel Alexis, and more.
Part travelogue, part studio diary, and part oral history, All My Friends tells of an exciting time of collaboration, mutual inspiration, and perseverance in the ever-changing world of indie rock. It features detailed remembrances by members of Dirty Projectors, White Hinterland, Little Wings, Songs: Ohia, Tarentel, and many others.
